Panel Discussion: The Future of Ammonia

23 Oct 2025
Hydrogen Derivatives & Sustainable Fuels

This panel will discuss the key aspects of ammonia's role in the future. Panellists will discuss the cost of production: When will green or low carbon ammonia become cheaper than grey ammonia? And in which regions and markets? For future uses of ammonia, such as moving to non-CO2 based fertilisers: Is there a case for using ammonia to generate electricity? Can ammonia be competitive in the maritime sector, against other options such as biofuels or onboard carbon capture? Discussing market growth: How quickly will ammonia usage grow in the coming years? Do we see a point at which it takes off? Additionally, the panel will address life-cycle emissions: Can blue ammonia from the US, using cheap natural gas, count as low-carbon ammonia in the EU? Can the emissions be kept down?
