Flexible Electrolytic Hydrogen Production System Based on Digital Intelligent Electrolyzer

20 Oct 2026
Hydrogen Stage Sponsored by W.L. Gore
Production and Infrastructure

The direct coupling of renewable energy sources with water electrolyzers is a key route to efficient and flexible green hydrogen production.

This presentation introduces a digitally enabled alkaline electrolyzer concept for flexible hydrogen production under dynamic renewable power input. The approach combines catalyst, electrode, and flow-field optimization with a digital management platform, a single-cell potential monitoring device, multi-sensor data acquisition, and state-characterization algorithms to improve efficiency, condition monitoring, energy-efficiency analysis, and predictive diagnostics.

Particular emphasis is placed on anti-reverse current capability, durability, and safe operation under fluctuating and start-stop conditions. At the system level, flexible connections, processes, and control strategies enhance integration with renewable energy sources such as wind and solar, and the findings are validated by operational data from an empirical test platform capable of measuring 5 MW and 10 MW stacks at full load under industrially relevant conditions.
