Fuel Cells Beyond Mobility
This presentation describes, how fuel cells can support the electrification of non-road mobile machinery (NRMM).
Since NRMM are exposed to high forces during their working cycles, battery propulsion is developing in such equipment.
Together with other electrical consumers, this increases the electric demand significantly.
Since the goal of electrification is decarbonisation charging via diesel generators is not the best suited method.
Using battery containers as power banks, which are charged off the site, is also causing an amount of emissions and logistic efforts.
As an alternative hydrogen powered fuel cells come into play. Since they separate power from energy, the electric connections can stay connected and checked.
The hydrogen is supplied by trailers, which provide a high energy content and easy replacement. When a battery container is providing in best case 5MWh, a hydrogen trailer of same size contains more that 6MWh electric energy.
