H2B:IMPACT - Hydrogen in Bremen – Innovations in Mobility, Ports and Clean Transformation
Germany’s first EU-funded H2 Valley
The Federal State of Bremen is set to become Germany’s first hydrogen valley, funded by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership—a public-private collaboration between the European Commission and Hydrogen Europe.
In Bremen and Bremerhaven, a so-called small-scale hydrogen valley will be established, demonstrating the integration of five innovative hydrogen offtake testbeds across the mobility, construction, logistics, and industrial sectors. Together, these applications are expected to consume more than 1,500 tonnes of hydrogen.
Bremen will receive approximately €9 million to develop this model region. The project is supported by a broad range of key industrial players, leading research institutions, innovative SMEs, and industry experts. The consortium is led by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ports, and Transformation.
A total of 25 partners from nine countries are involved. The lead partner works in close cooperation with the Institute of Shipping Economics and Logistics, which serves as the technical coordinator, as well as with the New Energy Coalition from Groningen.
The project is scheduled to run for five years.
The presentation will outline how Bremen and Bremerhaven are moving “from vision to valley”, showing how the project will connect hydrogen production, storage, distribution and end use across ports, mobility, construction and industry. It will also introduce the consortium partners, planned test beds and real-world applications that will be developed over the five-year project period.
