Insights from Europe’s CO₂ Market Evolution - Trends, Drivers & Challenges
DNV has partnered with Endrava’s CaptureMap to derive data‑driven insights into the evolving CO₂ capture landscape in Europe. This will include sectoral and regional insights. Sector‑specific analysis shows that capture momentum is strongest in industries including waste‑to‑energy and cement, with each sector progressing along distinct technology pathways. Regionally, deployment remains most established in Northern and Western Europe—supported by clearer policy frameworks and emerging transport and storage infrastructure—while growth areas are being established Germany, Southern and Eastern Europe. CaptureMap data also reveals notable trends in the technologies being selected, with amine solvent‑based post‑combustion systems most prevalent but growing interest and deployment of an increasingly diverse range of technologies. Despite this momentum, challenges persist on guaranteeing performance, managing cost and mitigating cross-chain risks. Joint Industry Projects (JIPs) provide a practical mechanism to overcome these barriers by enabling shared learning, de‑risking new technologies, and aligning stakeholders across the value chain.
