The Clock is Ticking – Risks to deployment from the Supply Chain Capacity
This presentation explores and builds on the CCSA’s recent work with the ECITB in the UK, identifying supply chain gaps, especially in relation to skills and workforce.
It is clear that as Europe accelerates the deployment of Carbon Capture projects to meet its legally binding targets for CO2 storage, the shortages of a Supply Chain capable of delivering all the required projects at the required pace has, and will increasingly become, a significant risk.
Exploring this, often underestimated and ignored risk, it is critical that projects are delivered on time and on budget, both to meet funding requirements and importantly, to keep the industry credible.
The presentation explores the progress towards the storage, and therefore capture targets, highlighting the gaps in deployment capacity. This, in turn identifies specific areas of skills shortages and draws a number of conclusions as to how these shortages can be addressed.
These conclusions are then transferred into recommendations to all the Carbon Capture industry stakeholders as to what actions are required from government and the industry to minimize these potential risks.
