From Platinum Efficiency to PGM-Free: ReCatalyst’s Catalyst Platform Heads to Hamburg
ReCatalyst is building a European nanotech catalyst platform designed to reduce dependence on scarce and geopolitically concentrated critical raw materials in decarbonisation technologies.
In hydrogen applications, ReCatalyst develops catalysts for both fuel cells and water electrolysers. The company operates at the catalyst layer of the value chain: converting precious-metal and carbon raw materials into advanced catalyst powders that are subsequently integrated into catalyst-coated membranes, MEAs, fuel-cell stacks and electrolyser systems. Beyond hydrogen, ReCatalyst intends to apply the same catalyst-design and manufacturing platform to further decarbonisation markets, including Power-to-X, green chemicals and industrial catalysis.
A key focus is improving the utilisation of platinum-group metals (PGMs) and elimination of their use. ReCatalyst's patented catalyst design enables platinum-based nanoparticles to be distributed more uniformly on carbon supports, increasing the effective use of the precious metal, while retaining reproducibility and quality as production is scaled from laboratory to pilot level. The company's technology has demonstrated up to 60% lower platinum requirements for equivalent or improved performance in its targeted fuel-cell applications.
The company's participation at Hydrogen Technology World Expo 2026 is supported through ReCatalyse, an EIC Pre-Accelerator project focused on the technical and business validation of PGM-efficient and PGM-free catalysts for proton exchange membrane and anion exchange membrane water electrolysis.
ReCatalyst looks forward to engaging with partners across the hydrogen value chain, building new collaborations, and advancing catalyst technologies that can support the broader use of green hydrogen and other clean energy solutions.

About ReCatalyst
Founded in 2021 as a deep-tech spin-out from the National Institute of Chemistry in Slovenia, ReCatalyst develops advanced catalysts for hydrogen and other decarbonisation technologies (Power-to-X, green chemicals and industrial catalysis). The company has raised more than €5 million in dilutive and non-dilutive funding, built a portfolio of four patent families, achieved ISO 9001 certification, and scaled its technology to demonstration level. ReCatalyst has completed more than 20 pilot projects across five continents, works with customers in five of the G7 economies, and is trusted by five Fortune 500 companies.
About EIC Pre-Accelerator project ReCatalyse
ReCatalyse is focused on technical and business validation of ReCatalyst's advanced catalysts for hydrogen production. Through the project, ReCatalyst is advancing its AEM and PEM electrocatalysts towards pilot level while strengthening business readiness and accelerating their path towards market deployment.
