LUVE enters the nuclear energy sector with a 27 million euro contract for the Hinkley Point C power plant in the UK
LUVE has signed an agreement for the supply of specialized cooling systems for the emergency diesel generators of the Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant in Somerset, UK. The contract, worth approximately €27 million and represents a strategic milestone in LUVE expansion into the nuclear sector.
LUVE, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of air heat exchangers, listed on the Euronext STAR segment of the Italian Stock Exchange, has signed an agreement for the supply of cooling systems for the Emergency Diesel Generators (EDGs) of the Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant in Somerset, United Kingdom. The contract, signed with Nuclear New Build Generation Company (NNB) through the UK contractor Bouygues Energies & Services, is worth approximately €27 million, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2025.
The agreement represents a highly strategic achievement for LUVE, enabling the company to expand its technical expertise and strengthen its presence in the nuclear energy sector, a key industry supporting the transition towards Net Zero and long-term environmental sustainability.
Once completed, the Hinkley Point C project will generate approximately 7% of the United Kingdom’s electricity demand from low-carbon sources. Built by EDF Energy, the plant will have a capacity of 3,260 MW, supplying electricity to around 6 million homes and avoiding approximately 9 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.
LUVE’s systems have been specifically engineered for the demanding requirements of nuclear applications. Designed to withstand shock waves generated by explosions and earthquakes, the cooling units will ensure the safe operation of the emergency diesel generators located within the nuclear island. These generators provide power to critical systems, including reactor cooling functions, whenever the plant is disconnected from the electrical grid.
The project includes the production of Air Coolers featuring all-copper coils, high-strength steel structures, and specially developed motors and fans, co-designed with international nuclear industry partners. All components have been engineered to match the plant’s 60-year operational life cycle, reflecting LUVE’s commitment to durability, reliability, and sustainability.
“We are proud to have been chosen to work on a project of this scale and complexity. The Hinkley Point contract demonstrates our high competence and innovative capacity and confirms LUVE’s competitive market positioning, achieved thanks to the strategy of diversifying product applications, which, together with geographical diversification, represents one of our strengths. Entering the nuclear sector, is an important step in our growth path.”
Matteo Liberali, President and CEO of LUVE
