MAT4HY.NRW: Accelerating the Transfer of Hydrogen Materials Innovation from Research to Industry
The transition to a hydrogen-based energy system requires efficient, durable and cost-effective technologies. MAT4HY.NRW addresses this challenge by connecting expertise across the materials and electrolysis value chain and creating fast pathways from research to industrial application.
Through its consortium partners, successful project development and dedicated networking events, MAT4HY.NRW provides a platform where industry challenges meet scientific expertise – helping to turn promising ideas into concrete R&D projects and market-oriented solutions.
Hamburg, Germany – October 2026. MAT4HY.NRW will present its approach to accelerating innovation in hydrogen technologies at Hydrogen Technology Expo Europe 2026 in Hamburg, taking place from 20–22 October at Messe Hamburg. The consortium will be represented at a joint exhibition stand (5B40) together with partners including the ZBT - the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Center, Westfälische Hochschule, Fraunhofer UMSICHT, HSW Materials GmbH, ProPuls GmbH and Direct Matter GmbH.
A central strength of MAT4HY.NRW is its ability to translate research into industrially relevant solutions quickly. The consortium combines complementary expertise in material synthesis, catalyst and electrode development, electrochemical testing, component evaluation, manufacturing processes and system integration. This broad expertise enables companies to access the right research partner for specific technological challenges – from fundamental material questions to pilot-scale applications.
The platform's consortium partners are also a strong driver for successful project acquisition. Their established research networks, industrial contacts and experience in national and international research projects create the basis for identifying promising ideas, building interdisciplinary consortia and developing competitive project proposals. Recent project activities and collaborations demonstrate MAT4HY.NRW's ability to turn networking and scientific expertise into concrete R&D opportunities.
Just as important is the platform's commitment to bringing industry and science together in person. MAT4HY.NRW regularly organises networking events designed to connect companies, researchers and other stakeholders, exchange technological challenges and identify opportunities for joint projects. The next networking forum will take place on 24 November 2026 at the University of Duisburg-Essen's Glass Pavilion in Essen.
At Hydrogen Technology Expo Europe, MAT4HY.NRW invites companies, technology developers, researchers and investors to discuss new materials, electrolysis technologies and opportunities for collaborative R&D projects.
