Mitsubishi Electric to Exhibit at Carbon Capture Technology World Expo 2026
The company’s first-ever exhibit at this Expo will be located in Booth 4B40, Hall B4L and will feature panel displays and video presentations themed “Beyond Carbon Neutrality: Towards Net-Negative Emissions.”

In the field of carbon dioxide capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), which contributes significantly to emissions reduction, Mitsubishi Electric is researching and developing carbon recycling technologies that convert captured CO2 into valuable products, such as chemicals and fuels. The company is placing a special 1/3 focus on CCU solutions aimed at “local production for local consumption.” The goal is to capture and utilize CO2 on-site at emission sources, such as small- and medium-scale factories, where large-scale underground storage is difficult to apply from the perspective of capital investment.
In the CDR field, Mitsubishi Electric is developing direct ocean capture (DOC) solutions that leverage the ocean’s natural ability to capture and remove CO2 from the atmosphere. The goal is to contribute to carbon neutrality across society by using CDR to achieve net-negative emissions, whereby the amount of CO2 removed exceeds the amount already emitted into the atmosphere. Such initiatives are essential because they address CO2 that has already been released into the atmosphere, as well as unavoidable emissions and sources that are difficult to capture with CCUS.
Through these integrated efforts, Mitsubishi Electric aims to achieve carbon neutrality and eventually negative emissions.
Exhibit Details
1) Carbon Recycling: CCU Solution for “Local Production for Local Consumption” Mitsubishi Electric’s CCU solution recovers and purifies CO2 emitted from factories and other facilities using technologies that convert the CO2 into valuable products, such as chemicals and fuels. Implementation is possible within facility premises or in surrounding communities. Three such initiatives will be presented with panel displays: - A demostration to capture and purify CO2 emitted from a gas boiler for use in beer production at a facility in Taiwan. - A demonstration to capture CO2 emitted from a gas boiler and synthesizing it into methane to fuel a gas boiler in Japan. - A study to commercialize the synthesis of urea from recovered CO2 and ammonia for local agricultural use.
2) CO2 Removal: Direct Ocean Capture (DOC) DOC is a technology that extracts dissolved inorganic carbon1 from seawater, thereby lowering the seawater CO2 concentration and promotes the uptake of atmospheric CO2 by the ocean, ultimately removing CO2 from the atmosphere. Mitsubishi Electric will present DOC system jointly developed with VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd. The exhibit will also present an envisioned DOC business model. Mitsubishi Electric, in addition to pursuing a durable carbon credits business, is exploring CCU opportunities to utilize captured CO2, and is also working to diversify its revenue streams by recovering valuable resources from seawater during CO2 capture and developing associated value chains. Mitsubishi Electric will introduce its DOC initiatives at the Expo’s Open Theatre Forum keynote with VTT on October 22. 1 Dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) is the total amount of inorganic carbon species, such as dissolved CO2, carbonic acid, bicarbonate ions, and carbonate ions, dissolved in water.
