Purem by Eberspaecher presents its portfolio for Hydrogen and Direct Air Capture
More than 160 years of development and manufacturing expertise feed into these innovations for industry and mobility. “We are expanding our portfolio with forward-looking technologies for hydrogen generation, transport, and storage, as well as efficiency-boosting solutions for fuel cell systems. We are also developing new approaches to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, such as Direct Air Capture,” says Avinash Mutharja, Executive Vice President Business Unit Industrial Products.
Fuel cell system expertise
As the latest addition to its portfolio, Purem by Eberspaecher introduces the De-Hydrator for effective water management. It reduces moisture content in the exhaust air of fuel cell systems, minimizing visible steam formation. Alongside improved water separation, the De-Hydrator boosts operations security. Together with the Water Separator, which reliably removes water from the cathode path, and Silencer, specifically designed for the intake and exhaust systems of fuel cell vehicles or systems, it rounds out the modular exhaust air system. The Cathode Isolation Valve complements Purem by Eberspaecher’s production-ready portfolio of Balance of Plant components. It hermetically seals the cathode path, protecting the stack from leakage and premature aging. With its regenerative air compressors from Eberspaecher Vairex, the company is also showcasing high-performance compressor technology: These oil-free side-channel compressors are characterized by optimized pressure ratios, low-vibration operation, and high efficiency.
A Recirculation Blower that increases hydrogen utilization
With the Hydrogen Recirculation Blower (HRB), Purem by Eberspaecher is presenting an in-house development for improved hydrogen recirculation. Because fuel cells do not convert all of the supplied gas on the first pass, the blower continuously returns the unused portion to the supply path, increasing fuel utilization and reducing hydrogen losses.
Industrial solutions for generation, transport, and storage of hydrogen
Purem by Eberspaecher also brings decades of experience in industrialization and the manufacture of complex systems to the entire value-added hydrogen chain. The company supports the transition of innovative technology concepts into series production and industrializes high-volume pressure vessels along with other metallic components for demanding hydrogen applications. This expertise spans everything from scaling technical solutions for hydrogen generation – to date focused primarily on high-temperature electrolysis (SOEC) – to components and pressure vessels for storage and the safe handling of hydrogen. It also draws on expertise in flow routing, high-temperature applications, welding processes, and the treatment of corrosive media.
A technological system for capturing CO2 from the atmosphere
Alongside its hydrogen technologies, the company is presenting a Direct Air Capture (DAC) system that removes CO2 from the atmosphere, thereby generating negative emissions. Ambient air flows through a reactor lined with solid sorption media that bind the carbon dioxide molecules. Once saturated, the media is heated, releasing the carbon dioxide, which is then collected in gaseous form. It can then either be stored (carbon capture storage) or reused as a raw material (carbon capture utilization). A particular highlight is the interactive digital dashboard, which lets visitors assess the efficiency and cost of future DAC plants by selecting a location and sorbent material.
