Reducing leakage in cryogenic hydrogen applications: Fluorten showcases its patented cryo seal technology
The growing adoption of hydrogen and LNG is driving the need for sealing technologies capable of operating safely and reliably under extreme cryogenic conditions. To address these challenges, Fluorten will present its patented Cryo Seal at Hydrogen Technology World Expo 2026.
Featuring an innovative modular design that combines radial and frontal sealing elements, Cryo Seal has been developed to minimize leakage and enhance sealing performance in critical applications involving hydrogen, LNG and other cryogenic media.
As hydrogen and LNG continue to play a growing role in the global energy transition, ensuring safe and reliable sealing performance under cryogenic conditions has become a critical engineering challenge. Reducing fugitive emissions and preventing leakage are essential not only for operational efficiency, but also for safety and environmental protection.
At Hydrogen Technology World Expo 2026, Fluorten will showcase its patented Cryo Seal®, an innovative modular sealing solution developed to address these challenges. Unlike conventional radial seals, Cryo Seal® combines radial and frontal sealing elements to create a dual sealing barrier that helps maintain sealing performance even when dimensional changes occur at extremely low temperatures.
Designed for operating temperatures from -269 °C to +280 °C, Cryo Seal® is suitable for applications involving LNG, hydrogen and other cryogenic media. Depending on application requirements, the sealing system can be manufactured using advanced materials including Victrex CT™200 (Cryo-PEEK), PCTFE, modified PTFE and other low-porosity polymers.
Performance testing with helium has demonstrated leakage levels up to ten times lower than those achieved by conventional radial sealing solutions, highlighting the effectiveness of the patented design in demanding cryogenic environments.
With almost six decades of expertise in polymer engineering, Fluorten develops and manufactures custom-engineered components entirely in-house, combining proprietary material technologies with advanced molding, CNC machining, finishing and quality control. This integrated approach enables the company to deliver tailored sealing solutions that meet the highest standards of quality, reliability and performance.
Visitors to Hydrogen Technology World Expo 2026 are invited to meet the Fluorten team and discover how Cryo Seal® technology can contribute to safer and more efficient hydrogen and cryogenic systems.
