The hydrogen economy relies on digitisation and automation to operate plants efficiently and in a scalable manner. As a result, the requirements for Functional Safety and Industrial Security are also increasing. At the Hydrogen Technology World Expo in Hamburg from 20-22 October 2026, the automation company Pilz will be providing information on how operators, integrators and plant manufacturers can provide holistic protection for their hydrogen plants, minimise risks and permanently increase plant availability.

Whether it's a matter of electrolysis plants, storage facilities, distribution networks or hydrogen refuelling stations: operators are increasingly investing in automation, digitisation and remote access. In order to make processes more efficient and expand the hydrogen economy sustainably, a holistic approach to safety is required. Pilz, the automation expert, helps companies to connect Safety and Security effectively, thereby laying the foundations for safe and available plant operation.

Keeping an early eye on regulatory developments

New legal requirements and standards such as the Machinery Regulation, IEC 62443, NIS2 and the Cyber Resilience Act are increasingly bringing Industrial Security into the spotlight. Pilz actively tracks these developments, participates in standards committees and helps companies to implement regulatory requirements practically at an early stage.

Holistic solutions for Safety and Security

At the Hydrogen Technology World Expo 2026 in Hamburg, Pilz will demonstrate how companies across the hydrogen added value chain can minimise risks, meet safety requirements and ensure the long-term availability of their plant. Pilz offers solutions for controlling and monitoring safety-related functions such as pressure, temperature, current and voltage, as well as for leak, gas and flame detection. These are supplemented by Industrial Security solutions designed to protect networked plants and sensitive data. Security assessments and risk analyses also help to identify vulnerabilities at an early stage and strengthen cyber resilience in a targeted manner.
