The simulator has been developed to address some of the most technically challenging aspects of dense-phase and supercritical CO₂ transportation, particularly near-critical thermodynamic behavior, phase transitions, impurities, and rapid transient events.
Dense-phase CO₂ pipelines can experience substantial changes in density, compressibility, temperature, and phase behavior as operating conditions change. These effects become particularly important during startup and shutdown, compressor trips, seasonal temperature changes, elevation changes, controlled depressurization, leaks, and rupture events.

The resulting decompression information can support fracture-control assessments, release-source characterization, dispersion studies, emergency-response planning, and controlled blowdown design.
CO₂ Leak Detection and Synthetic Leak Testing
Vanmok also applies its transient simulation technology to pipeline leak detection.
Physics-based simulations can generate Synthetic Leak Tests (SLTs) representing different leak sizes, operating conditions, CO₂ compositions, and transient states. These datasets can be used to evaluate leak detection performance and investigate whether operational events could be confused with genuine leak or rupture signatures.
