XENON and OMRON intensify Collaboration in the Hydrogen Sector

Bundled Automation Expertise for the Next Generation of High-Speed Stacking Technology

Dresden, March 31, 2025 – Omron Electronics GmbH and XENON Automatisierungstechnik GmbH are reinforcing their ongoing partnership through a signed cooperation agreement. The goal is to advance modern assembly processes for fuel cell and electrolyzer stacks, making it easier for manufacturers to shift from manual to scalable, automated production. A jointly developed demonstrator is the basis for the development of the high-speed stacking technology. The automated stacking system has successfully completed the proof-of-concept phase, enabling precise, rapid handling, position correction, and placement of fuel cell or electrolyzer components.

Both companies emphasize the crucial importance of their collaboration for the future of hydrogen technology. Thorsten Schlüter, Head of Strategic Sales at OMRON, emphasizes: “By working together as partners and using cutting-edge technologies, we have developed an innovative solution that takes the performance and reliability of electrolyzers and fuel cells to a new level.” Kay Truxa, Managing Director of XENON, shares the enthusiasm and adds: “I am delighted that we are setting new standards in automation together with OMRON. Our close cooperation enables us to develop innovative solutions that make the production of hydrogen technologies more efficient and process reliable.”

The technology is based on a modular concept with predefined interfaces, allowing companies to flexibly expand their production capacities as needed. Additional process steps can be seamlessly integrated to further increase automation and optimize production output. The foundational development of the assembly technology also makes it easy to adapt to other applications, such as battery assembly. The prototype is available at XENON's headquarters in Dresden for advanced trials and tests with individual customer products. 2 Background About hydrogen technology Fuel cell and electrolyser stacks are key elements for a sustainable hydrogen economy and the energy transition. Their function is to convert hydrogen and oxygen into electricity (fuel cell) or to split water into hydrogen and oxygen (electrolyser). The stacks consist of a large number of individual cells. The precise stacking of the individual components is of crucial importance for efficiency, performance and service life.
