Electrochemical reactor for low-carbon cement production and carbon capture
Low-carbon cement, made the way it should be: Cement is the backbone of the built world, and one of its biggest climate problems. Cement is responsible for approximately 8% of global CO₂ emissions, most of it coming from the chemistry of making lime, not just the fuel burned to make it. CURA tackles that problem at its source.
How it works: CURA’s electrochemical reactor splits limestone into lime and a pure stream of CO₂, ready for storage or use. Because our reactor generates a pure CO₂ stream, it can be directly compressed and is ready for storage and utilization applications. The reactors are designed to retrofit onto cement plants upstream of the pre-calciner/preheater. These reactors are powered by electricity and can reduce a facility's carbon emissions by up to 85%.
