Hydrogen Hybrid

Hydrogen Hybrid layers the thermal energy recovery used in Green CAES onto the reheat-combustor design of Hydrogen CAES. Waste heat captured during air compression is used to pre-heat the air before it reaches the gas-fired or hydrogen-fired combustor on discharge, so less fuel is needed to bring the air up to turbine inlet temperature. The result is a plant that recovers compression heat and retains full fuel flexibility across natural gas, hydrogen, and any blend of the two.

This dual efficiency gain matters because hydrogen's role in decarbonising heat, transport, and industry will require storage and generation infrastructure operating at the same scale as the gas plants it replaces. Hydrogen Hybrid is built from standard, multi-sourced equipment to meet that scale requirement without the cost and lead-time penalty of bespoke components, and is designed to be sited alongside large-scale salt cavern storage.
