HYTING AirSYS: emission-free peak heating with hydrogen
In a typical building, 10% of the heating season accounts for 40% of operating costs. Those few cold days decide how a heating system is sized and what it costs to run: the base load system is oversized, the capacity charge is set by a single peak, and grid capacity limits what can be added later.
HYTING AirSYS splits the job in a hybrid set-up. A heat pump (or waste heat from cooling, compressed air or machinery) covers the base load, sized for everyday demand rather than for the coldest day and running continuously at its best operating point. HYTING AirSYS takes the peak and the morning warm-up after night setback.
What customers gain
- Capacity charges down by up to 70% through a smaller agreed import capacity (kVA)
- Total cost of ownership down by up to 20% over ten years
- The additional CAPEX pays back in around two years where hydrogen infrastructure already exists
- At least 96% thermal efficiency, validated by Fraunhofer IOSB
- Zero CO₂, NOₓ and particulates
Four classes, one technology
- AirSYS Compact: stand-alone warm-air unit heater, up to 10/50 kW, 1:1 replacement for fossil gas unit heaters
- AirSYS RoofTop: rooftop heating with optional fresh air, up to 10/50 kW, for buildings without high ventilation requirements
- AirSYS Combi: air handling unit (AHU) with integrated H₂ heating module, 10–300 kW, for buildings with high fresh-air demand
- AirSYS ReFit: H₂ module for retrofitting an existing AHU, 10–300 kW, CO₂-free heat without structural work
How the technology works
Ambient air is mixed with up to 3% hydrogen and blown through a catalyst, where the hydrogen reacts flamelessly with the oxygen in the air and releases heat. The air leaves the unit warm and goes straight into the building — no flame, no boiler, no flue.
At the core of every class is a HYTING heat generator of 10 or 50 kW, modulating between 10 and 100% of its rated output so that the heat follows demand instead of cycling on and off. Units are combined in parallel, and output is built up in 10 and 50 kW steps — from a single unit to 300 kW and beyond. The technology stays the same, only the number of modules changes.
