LiquiSonic® for KOH Concentration Measurement and Gas Bubble Detection in Alkaline Electrolysis
The LiquiSonic® measurement system from SensoTech enables precise inline monitoring of potassium hydroxide concentration in alkaline electrolysis. Based on sonic velocity and temperature measurement, the system provides real-time concentration data directly from the running electrolyte stream and supports stable, efficient and transparent hydrogen production.
The robust immersion sensor can be installed directly into existing pipelines, lye circulation systems, bypass lines or measuring points on the hydrogen and oxygen side of the electrolyser. Typical applications include monitoring incoming and outgoing electrolyte streams at lye tanks, gas separators or circulation lines. Via BUS interface or digital outputs, LiquiSonic® can be connected directly to the process control system, allowing measurement values, alarms or control signals to be integrated into plant automation.
With a measurement accuracy of ±0.05 wt% and a measuring range from 0 to max. concentration, LiquiSonic® helps operators maintain optimal KOH concentration and detect deviations at an early stage. This is particularly important because electrolyte concentration is a critical process parameter for the efficiency of alkaline electrolysis.
In addition, LiquiSonic® provides advanced gas bubble detection. Gas bubbles in potassium hydroxide solution can disturb measurement signals and may indicate process irregularities, for example in electrolysis stacks or gas separators. The optimized sensor design and intelligent signal processing help reduce gas bubble interference, quantify gas bubble levels and provide reliable process information even under demanding conditions.
By combining KOH concentration measurement, gas bubble detection and direct integration into the control system, LiquiSonic® helps reduce manual sampling, improve process safety, minimize downtime and increase the efficiency of green hydrogen production.
