SydroGEM™ — Cost-Focused PEM Fuel Cell Bipolar Plate Coating
For fuel cell manufacturers moving from development toward volume production, coating cost must be considered alongside electrical performance and durability. SydroGEM™ addresses this balance on SUS316L stainless steel bipolar plates through an ultra-thin carbon coating based on NTI Nanofilm’s filtered cathodic vacuum arc (FCVA) technology.
The dense film is designed to maintain low interfacial contact resistance while helping limit corrosion and metallic-ion release in the PEM fuel cell environment. Its emphasis on coating material efficiency makes SydroGEM™ a relevant starting point for mobility and stationary power programmes prioritising repeat production and cost per coated plate under controlled or moderate chloride exposure.
Sydrogen supports evaluation on representative coupons or formed plates, with an agreed review of conductivity retention, corrosion behaviour, ion release and coating integrity. Coated-component supply and selected in-house coating routes can then be assessed against production requirements.
