Industrial Testing of eChemicles' CO₂ Electrolyser with K1-MET
Some industrial emissions cannot be fully eliminated through electrification or hydrogen-based production alone. CCU can provide an additional pathway by transforming unavoidable CO₂ emissions into valuable industrial feedstocks.
This video presents the collaboration between eChemicles and K1-MET to test low-temperature CO₂ electrolysis with real flue gas from the steel industry. The CO₂ is captured through amine scrubbing and fed directly into the electrolysis unit, where it is converted into carbon monoxide. The resulting CO can be reused on-site in steel production, helping create a circular carbon loop.
The project marks an important step from internal validation toward testing in a real industrial environment. It also provides an opportunity to assess key factors for future industrial use, including energy demand, system stability under real flue-gas conditions, and overall carbon efficiency.
Through this collaboration, eChemicles and K1-MET are exploring the potential of CO₂ electrolysis not only for the steel industry, but also for other sectors seeking to turn unavoidable emissions into useful carbon-based products.
