CYTOK - hydrogen pirates (CYTOK GmbH) develops power-to-gas solutions for a predictable, long storable and crisis-resistant energy supply.
Based in Rostock, Germany, we implement power-to-gas energy platforms for residential districts and housing complexes, commercial properties and industry, municipalities, public buildings and other energy-intensive sites.
Our technology converts surplus electricity from wind and solar power into storable synthetic methane, also known as synthetic natural gas or SNG. This allows surplus renewable energy to be used when it is needed, not only when it is generated.
By combining electricity, heat and long-term energy storage in one integrated system, CYTOK helps customers use more of their own renewable energy instead of purchasing electricity at high market prices. The result is greater independence from volatile energy markets, more predictable operating costs and a secure, year-round supply of electricity and heat.
Synthetic methane can be stored in the MWh range and used with existing gas infrastructure, heating systems and combined heat and power units. This enables proven gas infrastructure to remain in use while supporting climate protection and the transition to renewable energy.
Our patented power-to-gas process includes intelligent energy management, electrolysis, methanation and a closed CO₂ loop. CO₂ is recirculated and reused, supporting emission-free operation within the closed system. Through the combined use of electricity and heat, an overall efficiency of up to 85 percent can be achieved.
The technology has already proven itself under real operating conditions. At our reference plant at Lake Bernstein in Lower Saxony, surplus solar electricity has been converted into storable renewable gas and used for the local supply of electricity and heat since 2020.
From the initial idea to a validated decision, CYTOK supports customers with feasibility analyses, simulations, economic assessments, engineering and implementation.
Building on this experience, CYTOK offers two scalable product platforms:
Modular power-to-gas plug-in container platforms for compact and flexible deployment, and energy factories for the industrial-scale production of renewable molecules such as SNG, LNG and methanol.
