DWE GmbH – Deggendorfer Werft und Eisenbau – designs and builds reactors and large welded process equipment at a single site in Deggendorf, Germany. Founded in 1924 as a shipyard and building reactors since 1955, DWE today employs around 400 people and ships heavy loads from its own Danube harbor. More than 800 reactors have been delivered, up to 12 m in diameter, 80 m in length and 1,500 t in piece weight, with up to 60,000 reaction tubes and heat removal of up to 80 MW per reactor.
Power-to-X is one of DWE's four business segments, alongside chemistry, petrochemistry and defence & nuclear. DWE supplies the synthesis reactors along the whole route from green hydrogen and captured CO₂ to the finished fuel: CO₂ methanation for e-methane and methanol synthesis for e-methanol, both under DWE's own process licenses; the downstream steps that take methanol onward – methanol-to-gasoline, methanol-to-olefins and oligomerization to sustainable aviation fuel; and reverse water-gas shift with Fischer-Tropsch for the direct route. The molten-salt multitubular reactor, in service since 1955, is the platform behind all of them.
New processes are taken from the laboratory to industrial scale in DWE's own pilot-plant center, in operation since 1983. Numbering-up of proven reactor modules shortens the path from process development to a world-scale plant and reduces the technical risk along the way.
Engineering, design, manufacturing, testing and documentation sit under one roof – fewer interfaces where quality and schedules are otherwise lost. Manufacturing covers narrow-gap welding up to 400 mm wall thickness, deep-hole drilling and post-weld heat treatment in a furnace of 7 × 7 × 14 m, to ASME, PED, AD 2000 and EN 13445.
Independent since 2026 – previously part of Everllence, formerly MAN Energy Solutions.
