VSPARTICLE is helping remove one of the biggest barriers to scaling PEM water electrolysis: the reliance on scarce and expensive iridium.
Our dry nanoprinting technology produces high-performance, nanoporous catalyst layers with up to 90% less iridium than conventional approaches. Using spark ablation, nanoparticles are generated directly from bulk materials and deposited onto PTLs or membranes without solvents, binders, or ionomers.
Together with leading industry and research partners, we have demonstrated durable performance of PEM electrolyzers at ultra-low iridium loadings.
VSPARTICLE is now scaling this technology toward industrial production. Our newly operational pilot line has already produced 30 × 30 cm catalyst layers at just 0.1 mg Ir/cm², enabling electrolyzer manufacturers to test and develop next-generation low-iridium PTEs at commercially relevant sizes.
