A dedicated framework, the H2 Strategy of Bremen, was set in 2021 combining political, industrial and scientific aspects for planning and implementing strategic H2 initiatives. Thanks to its excellent geographical location, close to underground storage caverns for hydrogen, a strong supply of wind energy, and the upcoming connection to the H2 backbone through the Hyperlink project, Bremen will be among the first sites linked to the national hydrogen pipeline network. This will ensure future hydrogen supply for both industry and mobility.

Bremen is home to a variety of industries, with a strong focus on sectors such as space, aviation, ports, maritime, mobility and others. A robust applied research and development (R&D) network is actively working on solutions to support industrial decision-making in hydrogen-related projects. One example is the development of specialized test facilities and R&D initiatives. Bremen also benefits from unique expertise in liquid hydrogen, gained through its space industry, and leverages a cross-cluster approach to foster innovation and collaboration across sectors.

Excellent industrial, research and technology networks enable business development in Bremen. The short ways in the smallest German federal state and the close collaboration with politics on regional, national, EU and global levels are further assets fostering cooperation.
