Loop Energy’s latest cell system can deliver better fuel economy than a diesel engine at current prices, claims Loop Energy CEO Ben Nayland, reported Reuters.
A truck with its new S1200 hydrogen fuel cell system could travel just over 179 kilometres on a $100 fuel, compared with just over 109 miles for a similar diesel truck, based on a European diesel price of $1.91 per litre on September 5 and a hydrogen price of $10 per kilogram.
“This brings the future forward. This product delivers the economics that are needed for adoption today,” Nyland said.
Loop Energy plans to provide the fuel cell system to startup manufacturers and make up part of the hydrogen powertrains supplied to large truck manufacturers.
