Andreas Kuhlmann

Chairman of the Executive Board, German Hydrogen Association (DWV)
Andreas Kuhlmann has served as Chairman of the Executive Board of the German Hydrogen Association (DWV) since May 2026. In this role, he is responsible for the operational management of the association’s office and, together with the Presidium, coordinates the DWV’s strategic direction as well as its political positioning and public profile. Kuhlmann has many years of experience at the intersection of politics, the energy sector and transformation. From 2015 to 2023, he served as Chief Executive of the German Energy Agency (dena), where he played a key role in shaping major debates on the energy transition, the decarbonisation of industry, transport and buildings, and the role of hydrogen and Power-to-X in a climate-neutral energy system. Prior to this, he was Director of Strategy and Politics at the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW). From 2023 to 2025, he worked as Managing Director at Christ&Company, leading strategic advisory mandates focused on clean technology, innovation, the energy transition and climate action. Since June 2026, Kuhlmann has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of Hydrogen Europe. In addition, he serves, among other roles, as a member of the Supervisory Board of Berliner Wasserbetriebe, a member of the Advisory Board of Sunmaxx PVT and a member of the Sustainability Advisory Board of “die Bayerische”. As Chairman of the Executive Board of the DWV, he is committed to accelerating the transition of hydrogen projects into industrial application and to strengthening the political, economic and infrastructural framework conditions required for the market ramp-up.
