Florian Scheffler

Research associate, Fraunhofer-Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films IST
Florian has been with Fraunhofer IST in the Department of Sustainable Battery and Hydrogen Systems since May 2021 and is also a Ph.D. student at TU Braunschweig. He is involved in the ScaleH2 project within the HyGATE programme, where his work focuses on the techno-economic assessment of hydrogen and green iron import options from overseas. He also contributes to the H2 Campus Salzgitter project, focusing on the economic assessment of hydrogen applications for industrial defossilisation. His recent talks include a masterclass at the Green Hydrogen Summit in Muscat, Oman, on evaluating hydrogen solutions for net-zero factories and the green steel sector, with insights and case studies from the Hydrogen Campus Salzgitter. He is also due to present at the CIRP Conference on Life Cycle Engineering 2026 in Japan, with a talk titled “Green Hydrogen for Net-Zero Manufacturing – A Case Study for a German Chemical Production Site.”
