Kaspars Liepins
Green Energy Cluster Developer,
Freeport of Ventspils Authority
I work at the intersection of ports, renewable energy, green hydrogen and Power-to-X. Together with the Freeport of Ventspils Authority, I am helping shape the development of the Renewable Energy Cluster in the port and practical pathways for deploying green hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives in port and industrial applications. I am also the founder of H2Latvia, where I am engaged in project development, stakeholder cooperation and consortium building across the hydrogen sector in Latvia. My work further includes coordination activities linked to the Latvian Hydrogen Alliance and participation in Horizon Europe Hydrogen valley project "BalticSeaH2" activities through the Green and Smart Technology Cluster Latvia.
Before moving into the green transition field, I dedicated 11 years in managerial roles in the petroleum product storage business at VTTI, part of Vitol. Before that, I built my career at sea, spending 12 years on tanker vessels and rising to the rank of ship’s captain. That combination of maritime, energy and project development experience continues to shape how I approach hydrogen and PtX today.
