Sebastian Fischer

Sebastian is a geologist and works as a policy advisor for carbon management at the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) in Germany. He is an expert for geological CO2 storage and a member of several national and international advisory boards and working groups. Between 2022 and 2024, he was delegated to the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action to work on the national Carbon Management-Strategy as well as on the amendment of the national legal framework for CCS. In 2014, he had joined BGR as a research associate working on topics like geological CO2 storage and subsurface use potentials. Before that he worked at GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam in the Centre for CO2 Storage. Sebastian holds a PhD from Technical University Berlin for a thesis on geochemical-mineralogical effects of injected CO2 at the Ketzin onshore storage site in Germany.
