Hydrogen Hydrogen

Water is the essential feedstock for low-carbon hydrogen production, but producing bankable, fuel-grade hydrogen requires managing the entire molecule-from raw water intake to high-purity gas delivery. Veolia is uniquely positioned to eliminate performance risks by managing both the ultrapure water treatment upstream and the critical gas purification downstream.

Upstream of the electrolyzer, our pre-engineered and standardized treatment trains utilize Reverse Osmosis (RO) and Electrodeionization (EDI)-including our high-efficiency PROflex RO* and E-Cell EDI* technologies-or Multiple Effect Distillation (MED)* to consistently supply the ultra-pure water required to protect PEM and Alkaline electrolyzer stacks.

Downstream of the stacks, we provide standardized, containerized packages for deoxygenating and dehydrating hydrogen. These post-electrolysis modules catalytically remove residual oxygen and employ solid desiccant TSA dryers (silica gel, activated alumina, or molecular sieves) to produce fuel-cell-grade dry hydrogen. Finally, as a pioneer in Total Water Management, we close the cycle by treating and recycling complex wastewater discharges and process condensates from downstream e-fuel synthesis (such as e-SAF or e-Methanol), safeguarding local water resources while optimizing the plant's overall energy and water footprint.
